Serra-Doria: a good alternative to esophagectomy for the treatment of recurrent achalasia with megaesophagus

Esophageal achalasia is an esophageal motility disorder caused by a degeneration of the myenteric plexus, resulting in failure of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) to relax and aperistalsis. Due to the recurrence of symptoms, it was possible to reveal the recurrence of the difficulty of esophageal emptying on esophagogram and esophageal manometry. As a treatment option, the Serra-Doria esophagocardioplasty is an alternative to patients with recurrence of symptoms after cardiomyotomy, in order to avoid more complex procedures, such as an esophagectomy.
